No result in eight games for Plymouth Argyle has left manager John Sheridan under much pressure to deliever, as his squad travel to newly promoted Mansfield Town, hoping for the luck to change.

Following a run of poor results for the Westcountry club is it time for the Pilgrims to come back with all three points?

In a much newer formation to the Argyle fans, a rearranged 3-5-2 forming has abled the Pilgrims to make advantage of the extra man in midfield. John Sheridan's men however have found it diffult to hit the back to the net to move up the table as Plymouth sit in 19th position with the last victory coming on 7th September in a 1-0 over Bristol Rovers. However for Mansfield Town they sit in 7th place the last position of the automatic play-off place. they have been seen to play the traditional 4-4-2 formation having the extra man in defence preferred to Argyle's three central defenders at the back.

After Tuesday nights goalless draw at Home Park against one of the promoted sides Newport County, from the conference national last season, season 2012-13, manager John Sheridan was eager to discuss his dcision to attract another striker to Devon with only three currently fit these are Paul Hayes, Reuben Reid and Tyler Harvey. This was made following the lack of goals that have been scored by Plymouth Argyle in recent fixtures.

Newports lastest game in League Two came on Tuesday night against Bury, who have recently sacked Kevin Blackwell. The fixture also finished in a goalless draw with the visitors going down to 10men. John Dempster was given a straight red and will miss the next three fixtures the first one being against Argyle.

John Sheridan will still be without two of his senior players for the trip to Mansfield Town on Saturday. Marvin Morgan has undergone an shoulder operation that will see the former Shrewsbury player out of action until after the Christmas season. Matt LeCointe is out for the whole season as he suffered a Cruciate Knee Ligement injury as he collided with Ollie Chenoweth in pre-season. Mansfield Town manager Paul Cox will be without three defenders as they welcome Plymouth to The Field Mill Stadium. John Dempster and James Jennings will both be missing the fixture through suspension while Matt Riley will be ruled out through an achillies injury suffered in the previous fixture against Bury.

SkyBet League Two - Hartlepool vs Plymouth Argyle - Match Preview

In the middle of the winter season, October in fact, Plymouth Argyle will travel to Hartlepool, their longest away fixture in League Two this season, a round trip of 775.6 miles.

A result that can go any way for either team on Saturday, it’s sure to be an exciting encounter for the League Two squads.  The Pilgrims who are placed in 19th position on 11 points and can move ahead of Hartlepool if they are victories in the North West.  Hartlepool however are in 16th position and on 12 points.  The pools have made great progress from the start of the season when they were unable to score and keep a clean-sheet, the team are now three games unbeaten coming into this fixture with Plymouth Argyle.    

Manager John Sheridan and first team coach Gary Owers will be putting their faith into the players when the two decide the formation of the game.  Last Saturday’s Dockyard Derby saw Argyle revert to a 3-5-2 formation, having an extra man in midfield.  Having only played the set –up for part of the game against Swindon the foundation worked very well against Portsmouth and Argyle deserved a goal.  The ball hit the back of the net in front of the SkySports cameras when Conor Hourihane gave the Pilgrims a merited lead.  Following an energy to their progression and fight from the Pompey players Jed Wallace equalised with a well taken goal, with the ball fling past on rushing goalkeeper Luke McCormick and into the back of the net.  The first dockyard derby in more than 20years finished in a 1-1 draw, a well-deserved point for both teams.                                                                                                                           Following Exeter City’s 3-1 demolishing to Argyle two week previously City welcomed Hartlepool to St James Park last Saturday there second home game in as many weeks.  Goals from Jack Baldwin, Luke James and Jack Crompton earned the Poole’s all three points and there third victory in a row.    

An Argyle legend to the Green Army, Simon Walton will compete against the Devon club, for the first time since leaving the Pilgrims in summer 2012.  Leeds born and breed Walton had a torrid time for the first part of this contract but fittingly turned that around when it mattered at the lowest point in the clubs history whilst the club were fighting administration.  A leader in the heart of the midfielder with now captain Conor Hourihane, Walton lead the side and fought off the threat of a third success victory.  Simon Walton left the Pilgrims at the start of the 2012-13 season of a course of personal reasons.  He is now in his second season with Hartlepool.         

Signed by John Sheridan in the summer of 2012, Marvin Morgan, is to undergo a shoulder operation and will be out of action for some time.  The striker fell awkwardly in Argyles last victory, a 1-0 win at Home Park against Bristol Rovers on September 7th.  Another absentee to the Plymouth Argyle squad will be striker Nick Chadwick, the former Everton players signed on loan to Skrill Conference club Tamworth until January 1st 2014.  Chadwick has not played under Sheridan from the last fixture of last season and has seemly fell out of favour at Home Park.  John Sheridan will also nurse injuries to Guy Branston and Paul Wotton two very experienced central defenders who are suffering with slight ankle and back injuries.    Manager Colin Cooper will welcome back Steve Howard from his ban.  Midfielders Johnathon Franks, Anthony Sweeney and defender and Jordan Richards are all pushing for a place in the starting 11 come 3pm on Saturday afternoon at Victoria Park.

Battle of the Ports is the main focal point on Sky Sports, Saturday Lunchtime, when Plymouth Argyle welcome Portsmouth to Home Park in a 12:15pm kick-off.  Let’s see who can win the Dockyard Derby. 

No win in four matches for the Pilgrims, Portsmouth are searching for their third successive victory, the match at Home Park. Just two places between the two sides in SkyBet League Two it is all to play for in front of the nation. 

Not meeting in the League since January 1^st 1992 at Home Park Plymouth Argyle won the Derby 3-2 in Division Two.  The club have risen and fallen heavily since that meeting.  Three years ago Portsmouth were competing against the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal and now competing against Oxford and Hartlepool.  This time three years ago Plymouth Argyle were challenging for a play-off spot in the Championship and now sit 17^th in SkyBet League Two.  

Since 1992, Plymouth Argyle and Portsmouth have had very troubling years which are behind the two clubs.  Portsmouth were the first premier league club to go into administration in 2010 and were deducted 9points of a subsequence of that.  Following several months of Portsmouth not paying their players, they were in £135million (estimate) of debt and manager at the time Avram Grant was forced to sell many of his top earners at the club at that time. On the 1^st June 2011 Portsmouth exited administrated with Convers Sports Initiatives owned by Russian Vladimir Antonov completing the takeover of the club.  Portsmouth still in administration Plymouth Argyle entered administration on 4^th March 2011 with former Chairman Paul Stapleton issuing a statement ‘best thing for club’. Following much discussion of the new owner James Brent had saved the Pilgrims from Liquidation after being named by Argyle administrator Brendan Guilfoyle, who threatened to quit, in October 2011.  It’s bad enough to enter administration once but twice, yes twice, Portsmouth were put into administration once again on 17^th February 2012, twice in two years.  This was just after there then owner Vladimir Antonov was arrested and bailed for alleged asset stripping at a Lithuanian bank.   As a result of entering administration Pompey were deducted 10points with a debt estimated to be £58million.  On 19^th April Portsmouth exited administration with the supporters group agreeing to buy the club following two successive relegations. 

John Sheridan is look set to hand Brentford Loanee Paul Hayes his Home Park debut in front of the Sky Sports cameras.  The striker joined Argyle last Saturday and has participated in both games since, a 3-1 defeat to Exeter City last Saturday and a 2-1 defeat to Swindon Town on Tuesday evening in the Johnstone Paint Trophy.  One striker who is doubtful for the clash is striker Marvin Morgan, the 30year old has a back problem.  Guy Branston, Paul Wotton and Lewis Alessandra are among the players who are set to be named straight back into the squad following the players having no input in Tuesday’s defeat.  Former Argyle central defender Bondz N’Gala is set to return to Home Park for the first time since departing, when Portsmouth are the visitors to Devon. The West Ham apprentice ended his contract in 2011 by natural consent.  Before his move to Fratton Park the 23year old has had spells at Yeovil, Stevenage and a loan spell at Barnet.  Portsmouth manager Guy Whittingham is without David Connelly for the trip through a calf injury.  Tom Craddock and Danny East remain doubtful through a knee injury and a hamstring strain.

SkyBet League Two - Exeter City vs Plymouth Argyle - Match Preview

The first of the Devon Derby’s is set to take place at St James Park on Saturday in a 1pm kick-off when Exeter City meet their main rivals Plymouth Argyle. 

John Sheridan will take his Pilgrims side to St James Park, experiencing this for the second time with the first coming at Home Park last season, in the 1-0 victory for Argyle.  Not far behind Arsene Wenger Paul Tisdale is one of the longest serving managers in all four divisions and will be looking for revenge from the defeat at Home Park last season.   

The last encounter between Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle at St James Park took place on 15^th December 2012.  Not did we know that it was to be Carl Fletchers last involvement in a Devon Derby following the dismissal of him as manager in January 2013.  After a defensive mistake from Zimbabwe International and former Pilgrim Onismor Bhasera Exeter City were on their way to victory following Liam Sercombe gave the home side a 1-0 lead in the 34^th minute.  In the second half it wasn’t so easy for the Grecians with Argyle pilling pressure on them.  This finally paid off when former Argyle winger Joe Lennox scored a spectacular goal in front of the green army which levelled the game 1-1.  Both set of fans went home happy taking one point each after a 1-1 draw.                                                                                                                                                                                

The return fixture at Home Park saw John Sheridan take charge of his first Devon Derby in front of over 13,000 fans on 30^th March 2013.  Formally on-loan to the Pilgrims from Crystal Palace Jason Banton won the game in added time in the first half putting Argyle 1-0 to the good.  The game will always be remembered for Banton’s shirt saying ‘Keep Calm and Pass to Banton’.                

Signed from Brentford on a one month’s loan deal, Paul Hayes a 30 year old striker is set to take some part in the Devon Derby on Saturday.  The striker was signed by John Sheridan on Friday after the Pilgrims haven’t scored any goals in their last three fixtures.  The manager is also set to make many changes to the squad when the Pilgrims visit Exeter.   Durrell Berry is set to be included in the Argyle squad after being absent for last Saturdays goalless draw against Accrington Stanley at Home Park due to illness. Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale will give late fitness tests to John O’Flynn and striker John Parkin late fitness tests who are both struggling to overcome hamstring injuries.  Former Pilgrim Alan Gow is look set to partner Jamie Reid up front.  Apprenticeships Jake Gosling and Aaron Dawson are in contention for the Devon Derby on Saturday.

SkyBet League Two - Plymouth Argyle vs Accrington Stanley - Match Preview

An afternoon at Home Park will relish the homecoming of the 2001-2002 promotion winning team, and a milestone for Conor Hourihane, who will make his 100^th appearance in green. 

Plymouth Argyle will welcome Accrington Stanley to Devon on Saturday in the SkyBet League Two.  The basement club managed by former premier league player James Beattie have only one point on the board following losing their past seven games.   Beattie first joined the League Two club on 9^th November 2012 as player/manager.  Following making 25 appearances and scoring 6 goals in that season, the midfielder was named Stanley’s new manager on 13^th May 2013 following the departure of Leam Richardson. 

Arriving from Ipswich in the summer of 2011, Peter Reid named Conor Hourihane in the starting eleven, making his football league debut at the age of 20, in the opening game against Shrewsbury.   The talented midfielder scored his first football league goal in the 3-2 away victory over Dagenham and Redbridge in his first full season as a professional.   The Northern Ireland international has played under three managers since joining the Pilgrims.  In January of last year Conor was named the new Argyle captain after the departure of Darren Purse to Port Vale.  In the summer, Hourihane signed a new two year deal and is set to mark Saturday’s fixture against Accrington Stanley’s as his 100^th appearance for Argyle.  Also set to make his century for Argyle today if he plays is Curtis Nelson, the defender has made 99 appearances for the Devon club. 

Accrington Stanley’s last visit to Plymouth ended in a goalless draw on 26^th January 2013.  In the Stanley squad that day was current Pilgrim Romuald Boco.  The midfielder joined Argyle this summer and signed a one year deal for the Plymouth club.   

Transfer listed Nick Chadwick is back training after undergoing an operation in London during the off season that has just passed.  The only absentee from the squad is striker Matt LeCointe, the former Ivybridge Community College pupil is expected to be out for the ramada of the current season through a cruciate knee ligament injury.  The injury was sustained when an Argyle X1 played Truro City in pre-season with Matt colliding with the opposition goalkeeper.  Accrington Stanley are still missing numerous players due to injuries, goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin, defenders Michael Liddle and Laurence Wilson, and striker Danny Webber will all missd the fixture due to injuries.

SkyBet League Two - Scunthorpe United vs Plymouth Argyle - Match Preview

A couple of seasons ago this would have been a Championship fixture, now both in the forth tier; Scunthorpe United welcome Plymouth Argyle to Glanford Park in SkyBet League Two.   

 

Following relegation from Npower League One (original sponsor, now SkyBet League One)Scunthorpe United appointed Brian Laws on 29^th October 2012 following the dismissal of Alan Knill now at Argyle’s neighbours Torquay United to help steer them away from relegation, following his appointment for the third time as their manager he was unable to avoid relegation to the forth tier of English football. 

After nearly ten 10 years at the clubs, years 1997 - 2004 and 2004 to 2006, Laws left the club to manage Sheffield United and Burnley.  He then returned to the club in 2012 after being sacked in December 2010 by Burnley.      

Plymouth Argyle will be looking to bounce back from their very disappointing result last Saturday, home to Wycombe Wanders.  The squad lost 3-0 with Wanders taking the three points.  This left Argyle dropping to sixteenth place in the take instead of the play-offs if they had won the fixture.  Scunthorpe will be looking to make it back to back victories following a 1-0 away win at Southend United last Friday evening lifting them to 11th in the SkyBet League Two table..     

The last time both sides met in the league was in the Championship, season 2009-10.  On Saturday October 3^rd 2009, it was the first of the two fixtures in the league when Argyle welcomed Scunthorpe to Devon.  On this occasion Plymouth won the encounter 2-1 with goals from Jamie Mackie, now playing for Nottingham Forrest and Alan Judge from the penalty box.  The Scunthorpe goal also came from a penalty but Judge was on hand to hand the Devon side all three points.  The reserve fixture was played on Saturday 20^th March 2010, despite Argyle taking a 1-0 lead, the strike coming from Jamie Mackie, the Pilgrims were unable to hold onto the lead for long when Scunthorpe equalized on the half way mark in the first half from Garry Thompson.  The Lincolnshire side won the game with half an hour to go with Martyn Woolford scoring the second goal of the afternoon for the Irons.         

The Irons will be without winger Ashley Welsh as he has to undergo a knee operation.  Other than this injury Brian Laws has no new injuries or suspensions from his players.  A twenty man Argyle squad travelled to Lincoln on Friday, with no new injuries for Plymouth Argyle when they visit Glanford Park Saturday afternoon. John Sheridan is still without strikers Matt LeCointe and Nick Chadwick.  The pair have not featured this current season due to knee injuries. After last weekend’s result for Argyle, John Sheridan has insisted on making changes to the squad for the fixture in Scunthorpe.

SkyBet League Two - Plymouth Argyle vs Wycombe Wanders - Match Preview

Curtis Nelson is back in contention for Saturday’s game following a one match suspension, which he has served, after being sent off at Cheltenham.  

Plymouth Argyle will return to Home Park for the second of two home games on Saturday in which Wycombe Wanders will be the visitors. With one point separating both teams in the league table it is sure to be a tough test for the clubs.  Argyle will want to process on their winning mentality and get their fourth victory out of five league encounters.  John Sheridan’s side only loss came at Morecambe a fortnight ago.  Wycombe Wanders boss Gareth Ainsworth will also want his squad to progress on their three points following a 2-1 win away at Hartlepool last Saturday.    

The two side’s last meeting between each other was in the 2012-13 season on December 29^th 2012.  Carl Fletcher was still in charge of the Pilgrims having been relieved of his duties two days later.  Plymouth Argyle lost this fixture after an 11st minute winning goal from Matt McClure for the visitors.  The clubs will now meet at Home Park with one managerial change, this from the home club.  John Sheridan is now in charge of the Pilgrims and has been since January 6^th of this year.  Gareth Ainsworth was the care-taker manager of the Buckinghamshire side on that day, taking part in the full 90minutes, now he returns to Home Park as the Wycombe Wanders manager

Matt LeCointe and Nick Chadwick are the only absentees for Saturday’s visit of Wanders.  The pair have not taken part in any league fixtures this campaign as knee injuries continue to destruct their season.  Paul Wotton will be giving manager John Sheridan a headache when it comes to selecting the team on the afternoon of the fixture.  The defender made his comeback, from suffering broken ribs in the opening league fixture on August 3^RD, on Tuesday in a development game at against Torquay at Plainmoor.  Wycombe Wanders midfielder Paris Cowan-Hall will not be making a return to Home Park for the SkyBet League Two fixture.  The 22 year old, who was part of the Argyle squad which narrowly avoided relegation last season, was on course to make a comeback from injury in the fixture following a knee injury but is yet to participate in full training and so he will miss out.  Newly signed for Blackpool Charles Dunne has re-joined Wycombe Wanders on loan as part of the deal until the end of the season.  The defender is available for selection after serving his suspension.  Manager Gareth Ainsworth will assess the fitness of Dean Morgan and Josh Scowen ahead of their trip to Plymouth.  Following the extension of his loan deal from Sunderland Billy Knott is looking to start the fixture which would have been the end to his loan deal.

SkyBet League Two - Plymouth Argyle vs Bristol Rovers - Match Preview

Following a dramatic Tuesday evening fixture away to Cheltenham Town, Plymouth Argyle will return to Home Park where they will welcome John Ward’s Bristol Rovers.

The Johnstone Paint Trophy took centre stage on Tuesday and Wednesday night when League One and League Two clubs fort it out in the first round competition.  This is the only competition in which League One and Two clubs compete in.  There are two sections, the Northern section and the Southern section.  The winners of the Northern section and the Southern section will go head to head at Wembley to win the Johnstone Paint trophy.  In this week’s first round draw Plymouth Argyle travelled back to Cheltenham for the second time this season and Bristol Rovers were drawn against rivals Bristol City at Ashton Gate.  On Tuesday evening Cheltenham Town welcomed Argyle to The Abbey Business Stadium.  As of full time the result was drawn 3-3, in this competition it goes straight to penalties if there isn’t a winner from the 90minutes.  Considering the Devon club hadn’t won a penalty shot-out since 1998 there was not much hope, but Argyle surprised the fans once again when Marvin Morgan slot home the winner, winning 5-4 on the night.  The attention was then turned to the Bristol Derby on Wednesday night, which was aired live on SkySports Two, the first for over 6 years, had so much anticipation on the game.  The game which was overturned for crowd problems ended 2-1 to Bristol City, two sublime finishes from Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and former Argyle player Joe Bryan won the fixture. 

In recent seasons this fixture has been a high scoring derby in midweek.  As this will be the first fixture that Bristol Rovers have played Argyle on a Saturday for many years the Home Park faithful will be eager to cheer the players onto three points and the Rovers fans will be doing the same thing. The last meeting between the two sides was when Argyle lost 2-1 at The Memorial Ground on New Year’s Day 2013, this was the day that former player and manager Carl Fletcher was relieved of his duty at Plymouth Argyle.  Now managed by John Ward Bristol Rovers went into the half time break on New Year’s Day winning 2-0 with goals from Joe Anyinsah and Matt Lund.  Conor Hourihane pulled a goal back after the half time break but it wasn’t enough for Argyle to get anything from the game as the Pilgrims lost 2-1.            

Midfielder Hamza Bencherif and Wolverhampton loanee Jamie Reckord will be determined to make their home debuts on Saturday when Argyle play host to Bristol Rovers at Home Park.  The pair were signed on deadline day on short term details until January 1^st 2014 respectfully. One player who John Sheridan won’t be able to call upon is central defender Curtis Nelson.  He was sent off in Tuesday evenings Johnstone Paint Trophy first round victory against Cheltenham Town, Nelson will serve a one match ban.  Bristol Rovers Matt Harold will make his long awaited return to the squad after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury last September; he did however make the bench but was never required for action on Wednesday against Bristol Rovers.

Cheltenham Town vs Plymouth Argyle - JPT 1st Round

Plymouth Argyle will return to Cheltenham Town on Tuesday evening in the first round of the Johnstone Paint Trophy weeks after running out 3-1 winners in the league.

Both teams will be using this fixture to return to winning ways after the teams were both on the losing side on Saturday.  Plymouth Argyle were defeated 2-1 by Morecambe following Reuben Reid giving Argyle the lead from the penalty spot in the first half.  Straight from the kick off Argyle had conceded an equalizing goal.  Eight minutes from the full time whistle Morecambe had scored the winner goal which granted them the three points.  Whereas, for Cheltenham Town, they went down 4-1 to Bury at Gigg Lane.  The home side were behind in the opening 4 minutes from an Andy Procter own goal.  Minutes later Bury had levelled from a Danny Mayor goal.  Andy Procter made up from his earlier mistake by giving Bury the lead for the first time in that fixture.  A Nathan Cameron goal 5 minutes later gave the home side a 3-1 lead going into the half time break.  During the second half it all went quiet until the 76^th minute when Jessy Reindorf gave bury a 4-1 lead and that’s how it finished at Gigg Lane on Saturday afternoon.  

A transfer window this summer was all about Gareth Bale’s world record move to Real Madrid, Plymouth Argyle and Cheltenham Town have today, Monday 2^nd September, signed players on Transfer Deadline Day.  John Sheridan the Plymouth Argyle manager has signed two players.  The first player Sheridan welcomed to Home Park was Hamza Bencherif, a 25 year old Algerian midfielder.  Formally of Notts County, Hamza has been on trail with the Pilgrims for the past week, and played 80minutes in a friendly at Home Park against Bristol City.  He has signed a short term deal and is eligible for Tuesdays night’s fixture at The Abbey Business Stadium.  John Sheridan’s second signing of the day came an hour after the first, Jamie Reckford a left back at Wolverhampton has joined the Pilgrims on the three month loan deal.  His loan will run up to and include the New Years Day fixture against Torquay.  The signing of Reckford also came in time for him to play in tomorrow’s first round fixture.  Cheltenham Town manager Mark Yates has brought in a midfielder.  Rotherham United’s David Noble has joined the Robins on loan until January.  The former Arsenal trainee is available for selection to Mark Yates for the Johnstone Paint Trophy first round fixture at home to Plymouth Argyle.  Cheltenham Town have also had a departing player on the final day of the transfer window.  Billy Jones a former Exeter City and Crewe defender left the club by mutual consent after not making an appearance for the Gloucester side this season.            

Pilgrims boss John Sheridan will be looking at making changes to the squad after the 2-1 defeat at Morecambe on Saturday.  Left Back Jamie Reckford will be aiming to make his debut for Argyle at The Abbey Business Stadium as well as midfielder Hamza Bencherif who both signed loan and short term deals on Transfer Deadline Day.  Andres Gurrieri, Luke Young and Tyler Harvey will also aim to make it into the starting eleven on Tuesday.  Cheltenham Town striker Jamie Cureton will be looking to be in the squad tomorrow evening.  The former Exeter City forward has been absent from the squad since dislocating his shoulder in his debut game for the Robins against Burton Albion in the first league game of the season.   David Noble will be looking to make an impact in the fixture after arriving on loan from Rotherham on transfer deadline day.

Can Plymouth Argyle make it three consecutive victories when they travel to Morecambe on Saturday?

John Sheridan and his team will travel to Lancaster full of confidence after two back to back wins, a 3-1 away win at Cheltenham Town and a 1-0 victory at home to Rochdale Athletic.  Following the two wins, Argyle have made their best start to a season since 2006 when current Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway was in charge of the Pilgrims.   The SkyBet League Two table make better reading after recent years as the Pilgrims are placed in 9^th position.   As of Saturday’s opponents, Morecambe, they are situated in 19^th position.

The Lancaster side will be aiming to get back to winning ways against the Devon club after the defeat of Newcastle at the Globe Arena Stadium on Wednesday.  The televised fixture on SkySports 4 was part of this seasons Capital One Cup second round encounter.  The Shrimps lost 2-0 after the Ameobi brothers scored one each in the second half.  Plymouth Argyle were not in action in midweek after they lost in extra time to Birmingham in the first round at St Andrews.        

Plymouth Argyle last travelled to Morecambe nearing a year ago to this date as it was a game of two halves.  The home side had scored straight off from kick-off in the second minute after a goal from Jack Redshaw.  Following that goal the Shrimps went into the half time break 1-0.  In the second half Morecambe had made it 2-0 on the 51^st minute following a Richard Brodie goal. The much travelled green army were seeing three goals in less than 20minutes from the Argyle players.  The first goal came from Ross Jenkins who volleyed the ball into the top hand corner.  The next two goals came from the penalty spot on the 80^th and 87^th minute, Warren Feeney scored both and Argyle had won the fixture 3-2. 

Midfielder Lewis Alessandra will be making his first ever trip back to the Goble Arena Stadium when his current club face his former club, Morecambe. Alessandra signed a 2-year contract with Plymouth as he reunited with his former manager John Sheridan, who he played under at Oldham Athletic.  Paul Wotton, Nick Chadwick and Matt LeCointe will miss the game due to injuries.  Matt LeCointe had an operation on his knee on Tuesday as he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in pre-season.  Jim Bentley will be without Jack Redshaw through a hip injury.  Defender Chris McCready and forward Marcus Marshall will be aiming to take some part in the fixture after recovering from

SkyBet League Two - Plymouth Argyle vs Rochdale - Match Preview

Following on from Argyle’s first victory of the season, a 3-1 away win at Cheltenham, John Sheridan and his players will welcome Rochdale to Home Park.   
The Pilgrims will be searching for their first back to back victories since season 2012-13 when Plymouth Argyle won three games consecutively in March 2013, the second time that season, the first victory came on March 16^th where Argyle defeated Fleetwood 2-1 at Home Park, the next three points on the board came 3 days after the first when Plymouth Argyle travel to Essex to play Southend United.  The Green Army had witnessed a 2-0 victory after goals from Paul Wotton and Reuben Reid.  The third victory came on the Saturday, March 30^th, where Exeter City visited the theatre of greens.  Argyle won 1-0, with the only goal coming from former player Jason Banton just before the first half interval.

The fans will definitely remember the last time Plymouth Argyle met Rochdale Athletic in League Two.  More than 2000 fans travelled to Lancashire to witness a day to remember after Argyle avoided relegation to the Conference Primer but currently called The Skrill Premier after results going the greens way after Rochdale won 1-0 after 90minutes.  The game at Home Park earlier on in that season, season 2012-13, Argyle were awarded two penalties in the 3-1 victory in Plymouth.  Formerly a Pilgrim Guy Madjo and current Pilgrim Andres Gurrieri had put Argyle 2-0 up in the first 7minutes from the penalty spot and a headed goal. Dele Adebola had scored for the Dale on the 76^th minute but it wasn’t enough as Guy Madjo converted his second penalty of the afternoon in added on time of full time.

Plymouth Argyle manager will welcome back defender Maxime Blanchard; the Frenchman has missed the season so far through a two game suspension and being on compassionate leave. Maxime had been suspended for two games at the start of the SkyBet League Two following the defender picking up two red cards last season the 2012-13 season.  The first red card he was given was in the away fixture to Exeter City in the 1-1 draw.  The second red card he picked up was in the final fixture of last season away to Rochdale in the 1-0 defeat.  The defender has now served his suspension and has recently returned from France after being on compassionate leave following a family bereavement.  John will also welcome back Jake Cole into the team, the London born was absent from the Victory at Whaddon Road last Saturday due to an ankle injury which he sustained in last Friday’s training session following a collision with Marvin Morgan.  The team is likely to be unchanged following the result against Cheltenham Town at The Abbey Business Stadium.  Rochdale manager and former Pilgrim Keith Hill will be without his captain Peter Cavanagh through suspension.  The midfielder was sent off in the match against Burton Albion. After failing to overturn the red card the midfielder will now serve his second of a three match ban and will miss the trip to Devon.

SkyBet League Two - Cheltenham Town vs Plymouth Argyle - Match Preview

With both teams searching for their first victory of the season, Cheltenham Town will welcome Plymouth Argyle to The Abbey Business Stadium on Saturday, for the third league game of the season. 

 Argyle will be aiming to make it a great week for the Green Army after planning permission for Higher Home Park was given the go ahead on Thursday afternoon after hours of consolation by Plymouth councillors.  A victory at The Abbey Business Stadium will make it a fantastic few days on and off the field for The Pilgrims. 

The Greens will make the short trip to Cheltenham on the back of three defeats and looking for their first three points of the season.   Currently placed in 23^rd position, the Pilgrims are used to looking at the bottom halve of the SkyBet League Two having been fighting relegation for the past couple of seasons. In similar circumstances, Cheltenham Town have only picked up a point from their first two league game of the season.  The Gloucestershire club are placed in 18^th position on one point. 

The last time Plymouth Argyle and Cheltenham Town met at The Abbey Business Stadium was last season, season 2012-13, 23^rd October 2012, where Argyle lost 2-1.  Conor Hourihane had put The Pilgrims 1-0 up on the 30minute.  Just under 10minutes later Cheltenham Town had equalised following a goal from Steve Elliott.  Mid-way through the second half Cheltenham scored again from a Kaid Mohammed goal on the 70^th minutes.         

During the summer Cheltenham Town have had to let go, two if not the best players of last season.  Marlon Pack, a 21year old midfielder joined Bristol City on August 2^nd after impressing the club following a trial.  The clubs reached a compensation fee in the region of £100,000 and joined on a 2 year deal.  Striker Darryl Duffy has also left The Abbey Business Stadium after his 2 year contract with the Robins was not renewed for the current season.  The Scotland born 29 year old who scored 15 goals in his first full season as a Robin has signed for Salgaocar FC in the Indian I-League after impressing on trial.      

 Following the tough decision Plymouth Argyle manager John Sheridan took the previous Saturday on which goalkeeper will play regularly, Jake Cole is look set to keep his place in the team.  Jake and Luke competed against each other to impress the boss on who should be the regular goalkeeper.  Defender Guy Branston who did not take part in Pre-season training or friendlies due to a calf injury and illness is set to be included in the squad that travel to Gloucestershire on Friday.  The central defender played 60minutes in a 2-0 defeat to Yeovil in a behind closed door friendly on Tuesday afternoon in Somerset. Also in the squad was Argentine midfielder Andres Gurrieri, who also missed out on Pre-season due to injury, played the full 90minutes at Huish Park.  Defender Maxime Blanchard will not be in the squad that travel to Cheltenham for Saturday’s fixture, the versatile player is on compassionate leave after the sudden death of his older brother and has returned to France to be with his family. Also missing from this fixture will be Paul Wotton, the 36 year old broke his rib on the opening weekend of League Two following a collision with goalkeeper Luke McCormick.   As for Cheltenham, manager Mark Yates will be without summer signing Jamie Cureton, who signed from Exeter City in the summer, after he dislocated his shoulder following a collision with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, on the opening weekend of the SkyBet League Two season, during the 2-2 draw with Burton Albion at Whaddon Road.  On Thursday Mark Yates brought in a replacement for the injured striker, Steven Gillespie arrives at Whaddon Road on a one month loan deal from Fleetwood.

Rochdale vs Plymouth Argyle - Match Preview

Plymouth Argyle will explore the countryside and travel to Rochdale for the biggest game in recent years for the club.

The Pilgrims will need to be undefeated come 5pm on Saturday to avoid relegation to the Conference Blue Square Premier as they go into the last game of the 2012-13 season. The Greens, placed in 19^th place and on 52 points, will have to win or draw at Spotland Stadium, in front of thousands of members of the Green Army travelling to the game from around the country. The players have even chosen to sponsor one of the coaches travelling from Home Park to the game.

10 years ago this season, now a premiership side, Swansea City avoided relegation to the Conference Premier on the last day of the season at the expense of Devon Rivals Exeter City.  Can Argyle do the same? In 2002, Paul Wotton, and former Argyle players clichéd promotion at Rochdale, winning 3-1 on March 26^th. Now Paul Wotton and current players wearing the green shirt with pride will go to Rochdale on a completely different note.  Saturday they will be aiming for all three points to be a football league club next season rather than aiming for promotion. This season both clubs have already met in the division at Home Park on Saturday 20^th October 2012.  The result that day finished in the Pilgrims favour winning 3-1 with former loanee Guy Madjo getting two and Andres Gurrieri adding the third.  Rochdale’s consolation goal came from Dele Adebola on 76minutes.     

John Sheridan, who will manage Argyle for the last time tomorrow after being offered a contract until the end of the season, by owner James Brent in January, will be without Warren Feeney and Jamie Lowry for the trip to Rochdale.  Warren Feeney has been out of the game since 12^th January 2013; when Argyle played Morecambe at Home Park.  The striker suffered an ankle injury in the first half and is still recovering from that injury.  Midfielder Jamie Lowry, who was reunited with Sheridan at Plymouth, is recovering from an ankle injury that he picked during training.  Whilst defender, Jamie Richards, is unavailable as he is on-loan to Dorset club Weymouth Town.  Joe Bryan, Ronan Murray and Reuben Reid will all play there last game in a green shirt as they all return to their parent clubs after joining on loan from Bristol City, Ipswich Town and Yeovil Town, until the end of the season. Plymouth ARGYLE vs Rotherham United - Match Preview

Plymouth Argyle will secure their Football League status on Saturday if they can obtain all three points at Home Park to promotion contenders Rotherham United. 

The Greens are heading into their last home game of the 2012-13 season needing only three points to play in the football league next season. If other results go the Pilgrims way it doesn’t matter what result comes from the encounter at Home Park.   If 23^rd place Barnet lose at home to Wycombe Wanders Argyle will only need a point from the game to achieve survival and play in the football league for a following season.     

The Pilgrims are heading into the Npower League Two fixture on Saturday in 17^th place following the crucial victory over John Sheridan’s former club Chesterfield on Tuesday evening.  Argyle took a two goal lead into the second half with both Joe Bryan and Curtis Nelson contributing to the goals, in the first half, since Jason Banton’s departure from the club earlier in the week. However in the second half Chesterfield scored from an own goal from central defender Guy Branston. Whereas for Rotherham, Saturday’s visitors to Home Park, will be eager to achieve the three points as they look to protect their automatic promotion spot, third place, as they head into the last fixture of the Npower League Two season next Saturday. Rotherham have won three consecutive fixtures, including their 2-0 win over Capital One Cup finalist Bradford City.

John Sheridan will be aiming to name an un-changed side following their victory over Chesterfield, at the Proact Stadium, as 399 members of the Green Army were in attendance to witness as the players picked up the three points.  Midfielder Lee Cox will still be missing from the match day squad due to suffering ligament damage in his shoulder in the win over Exeter City at Home Park.   Striker Warren Feeney will still absent from the squad due to an ankle injury.  Also missing the last home day of the season at Home Park will be Jamie Lowry, the midfielder suffered an ankle injury a few games back and will miss next Saturday’s showdown at Rochdale in the last fixture in Npower League Two.  As for Rotherham, Steve Evans, will be hopeful for the return of his two main players, former Exeter City Daniel Nardiello and David Noble are recovering from a thigh injury and a virus and are hopeful to be included in Saturdays match day squad.  Doubtful for the fixture for the visitors is Michael O’Connor; O’Connor suffered a knock in Tuesday’s win over Bradford City.

Chesterfield vs Plymouth Argyle-Match Preview

For the second of two consecutive away games, Argyle will travel to Chesterfield, the fixture that was rearranged due to the original match being snowed over.   

John Sheridan’s Pilgrims will make their second trip to the Proact Stadium home to Chesterfield this evening, following the postponement of the original fixture on 23^rd March 2013.  This Npower League Two fixture unfortunately fell foul of the British weather that was to hit most of the Country that week and weekend.         

John Sheridan will revisit Chesterfield where he enjoyed three successful seasons as manager from the years of 2009 to 2012 after being appointed on June 9^th 2009 on a three year contract.  During his spell at the club he won two trophies, with the first one coming in his second season in charge as The Spireites won promotion to Npower League One. The celebrations started after a 3-1 victory over play-off chasing Gillingham in the last fixture of the season.  The following season guaranteed even more festivities when the club reached the Johnstone Paint Trophy Final held at Wembley against Swindon.  After being victorious at Wembley the club were relegated back to Npower League Two after finishing in 22^nd place.  The following season ended with Sheridan leaving the club on 28^th August 2012 after picking up two points from the first three games at the start of the season.

Plymouth Argyle will welcome back captain Conor Hourihane for their trip to Chesterfield on Tuesday evening.  The skipper has sat out the previous two games due to suspension after he picked up his 10^th bookable offence away at York City on Easter Monday.  One player who will be missing the encounter is Jason Banton who was on loan from Championship side Crystal Palace.  The winger was re-called by former Argyle boss Ian Holloway, by immediate effect, following Saturday’s narrow defeat to 3^rd place Burton Albion.  On loan Swindon midfielder Lee Cox is unavailable to manager John Sheridan for the remainder of the season. The midfielder is going to have to have surgery on his shoulder after dislocating it in the Devon Derby at Home Park. For Sheridan’s old club Chesterfield, they will be without experienced striker Jack Lester. Lester misses out through a back injury.  That is the only injury concern which Paul Cook is to worry about.

Burton Albion vs Plymouth ARGYLE-Match Preview

Plymouth Argyle will travel in high spirits to Staffordshire to face Burton Albion on Saturday, following their victory over promotion chasing Cheltenham Town the previous week.

Following the 2-0 win over the Gloucestershire side, Cheltenham Town, Plymouth Argyle moved up to 18^th place 4 points clear of the relegation zone.  As for Argyle’s opponents Burton Albion, the Brewers sit in the automatic promotion places in third position after a comfortable 2-0 win over Wycombe Wanders on Tuesday Evening.

Plymouth Argyle and Burton Albion have already played each other this season at Home Park on 7^th November.  Burton Albion took all three points on a very chilly Tuesday evening.  In the Argyle starting line-up that evening is present Albion midfielder Alex MacDonald.  Signed from Woking Town in the summer Paris Cowan-Hall gave the home side the lead just at the start of the second half on 49minutes.  Albion had equalised on 74 minutes through Nathan Stanton and Robbie Weir had scored the winning goal 4 minutes after the equaliser had been scored. 

Players from each team will come up against their former clubs if selected on Saturday in the Npower League Two fixture.  Argyle defender Guy Branston and midfielder Andres Gurrieri have both played for Burton Albion; whilst from the Albion Alex MacDonald and Damien McCrory have had spells with the Pilgrims.  Guy Branston enjoyed a season at the Pirelli Stadium making 19 appearances; he was then released at the end of the 2009-10 season and joined Torquay United on a one year contract.  While Argentine Gurrieri played for the Brewers last season, season 2011-12, making 13 appearances. After being released by Albion at the end of last season Gurrieri had a trial with the Pilgrims which was successful and signed a 12-month contract. Burton Albion midfielder Alex MacDonald has been signed by Argyle on two separate occasions on loan from Championship side Burnley. Most recently the fans favourite joined the Pilgrims on loan at the start of this current season.  The attacking midfielder was set to join Plymouth Argyle permanently in the January transfer window, until the deal fell through after former manager Carl Fletcher was sacked at the beginning of January 2013. Another Brewer who has been contracted to the Devon Club is Damien McCrory, the Irish born started his career with Argyle, having signed with the centre of excellence.  He was soon offered a 12 month professional contract in 2008.  In that year he spent time out on loan at Port Vale and Grimsby Town.  In 2010 Damien signed a two year contract for Dagenham & Redbridge.     

Manager of the month for March, John Sheridan will be aiming to name an un-changed side on Saturday when the Pilgrims face third place Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.  After becoming the second youngest player to be named as Plymouth Argyle captain, Curtis Nelson is look set to keep hold of the armband for the trip up North whilst Conor Hourihane serves his second of a two match suspension. However Paul Wotton is doubtful for this encounter due to a groin injury that he suffered in the win over Cheltenham at Home Park last Saturday. Also very doubtful for the Npower League Two fixture is Lee Cox, who is on loan from Swindon, is still struggling with a shoulder injury that he sustained in the Devon Derby.  As for Burton Albion Calvin Zola is a doubt for the visit of Plymouth through a hamstring and hip injury which has seen him sat out the last four fixtures.  Captain Zander Diamond and goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson look set to return to the starting line-up after being dropped by manager Rewett for Tuesdays fixture after the 7-1 defeat to Port Vale the previous Saturday.
