We spoke to the people who know their teams the best to get a comprehensive view on the summer and the upcoming 2016/17 campaign.
ACCRINGTON STANLEY
Hopes and expectations?
The expectation is top half as we still have a good defence. Our play-off hopes hinge on replacements for match-winners like Josh Windass and Piero Mingoia, though.
Best bit of business?
Goalkeeper Aaron Chapman impressed in his brief earlier spell and could prove an upgrade on Ross Etheridge. Fraser Shaw showed potential at Orient.
Who are you relying on?
Billy Kee. He hit 17 goals last season, providing excellent work rate and hold-up play. I now regret selling him on Football Manager.
Predicted finish?
Ninth. It's hard to argue that the squad isn't weaker than last season but John Coleman is a superb manager and I feel we'll be near the play-offs.
BARNET
Hopes and expectations?
The latest squad does have a very strong feeling to it, even with the loss of Andy Yiadom and Graham Stack.
The stadium is looking better and better and expectations are to finish higher than last season while the hope for me is to win the lottery and buy all the players an ice cream.
Best bit of business?
I honestly think the best business so far this summer is the extension of Martin Allen's contract.
I know he loves it at Barnet, he makes things happen and he would be my first choice as a guest at a dinner party every time.
Who are you relying on?
Everyone at the club is thrilled John Akinde has signed a new contract. His goals-per-game ratio over the last two seasons has been phenomenal – approaching "Bees all-time great" territory.
However it's not just goals with John - he scares defenders. They daren't take their eyes off him, and I love that.
Predicted finish?
In all seriousness I really believe this squad is play-off bound this season. Plus I haven't seen Barnet at Wembley since 1972, and I want to go again.
BLACKPOOL
Hopes and expectations?
Blackpool fans expect another miserable campaign after back-to-back relegations.
The vast majority of supporters are still at loggerheads with the Oystons about our drop into the bottom tier after constant mismanagement.
Could the Conference beckon?
Best bit of business?
Appointing Gary Bowyer as manager. Given he had to work under the equally-hated Venky's at Blackburn, he is used to difficult owners and still seemed to manage to create a decent team spirit at Rovers.
Who are you relying on?
There are no players left from the Premier League season and few with any real connection to the club after even the best youth-team products were allowed to leave for next to nothing.
But defender Tom Aldred showed that he is at least up for the fight last season and his ability to galvanise those around him could be crucial to Blackpool's chances.
Midfielder Brad Potts is also probably a class above the average League Two playmaker, but will he show it often enough?
Predicted finish?
16th. There is probably too much quality to go down again, but the poisonous atmosphere at the club will weigh on everyone.
CAMBRIDGE UNITED
Hopes and expectations?
After narrowly missing out on a play-off berth last season, that old temptress hope is dangling an automatic promotion place before us. Realistically, though, top seven is an achievable target.
Best bit of business?
Undoubtedly the signing of Piero Mingoia from Accrington Stanley, an exciting winger who looks capable of playing at a higher level. And we got him for nothing.
Who are you relying on?
Our defensive rock will again be the inspirational Leon Legge. Local boy and captain Luke Berry will drive the team on from midfield, with Mingoia and Harrison Dunk providing flair and pace from the flanks.
We would like to be able to count on the goals of Barry Corr – though it looks like he won't be fit enough to start the campaign.
New boy Joe Pigott, meanwhile, has been impressively prolific in pre-season.
Predicted finish?
Speaking from somewhere between optimism and pragmatism, I'll go for sixth.
CARLISLE UNITED
Hopes and expectations?
That the club and our supporters trust finally get all the off-field stuff in order to attract new blood and investment.
Best bit of business?
Signing wide midfielder and promotion specialist Nicky Adams, who has gone up with Bury and Northampton in the last two seasons. His experience and assists are ideal for this level.
Who are you relying on?
Our strike trio of Jabo Ibehre, Charlie Wyke and Shaun Miller. All three can score goals but have different strengths – a potentially nice mix.
Predicted finish?
Has to be a minimum of play-offs after manager Keith Curle has been backed to sign the likes of Adams, Miller, Jamie Devitt, Mike Jones and Shaun Brisley to go with what was left in the summer.
Anything less will be a failure.
CHELTENHAM TOWN
Hopes and expectations?
With the momentum of last season's National League title triumph, I have good expectations for the season ahead.
Gary Johnson has kept most of the squad together and there is no reason why we can't mount a challenge at the top end of the table.
Best bit of business?
Managing to keep the squad together. Many of them had little hesitation in signing on again as they realise the club is heading in the right direction under Johnson's management.
There is a good unity at the moment within the squad and that will be key for the coming season.
Who are you relying on?
Danny Wright scored 21 goals last season, and his strike partner Dan Holman scored 16 in 18 games after arriving in January.
These two will be the key men in providing more goals to carry on our upward movement.
Predicted finish?
I think we will be in the top half, and hopefully make a challenge for the play-offs at least.
I think the top three automatic spots might be a step too far with the likes of Portsmouth, Plymouth, Luton and Leyton Orient around - but you never know...
COLCHESTER UNITED
Hopes and expectations?
We are hoping for promotion. It’s the first time we have been in the fourth tier since 1998. Fans are looking for a good start and at least a play-off place.
Best bit of business?
The signing of Craig Slater. We beat the likes of Aberdeen to his signature. Other key signings will probably be Luke Prosser and Doug Loft, who both have a lot of experience at this level.
Who are you relying on?
I wouldn't say we have many stand-out players, but Owen Garvan probably shouldn't be playing League Two football.
Predicted finish?
Play-offs.
CRAWLEY TOWN
Hopes and expectations?
Big squad changes have been made so I'd expect a slow start before we finally start to gel. I hope we can string a good run of results in cup competitions together.
Best bit of business?
Getting Mark Connolly back after he left for Kilmarnock. He's a fans’ favourite and rock in defence.
Who are you relying on?
The goals of James Collins and Matt Harrold. If both can find form, they could be lethal.
Predicted finish?
Mid-table, but I'm dreaming of a Wembley play-off final.
CREWE ALEXANDRA
Hopes and expectations?
I’d love to see us bounce straight back up into League One, but I just don’t think we’re good enough. There are also some young players with a point to prove whom I’d like to see fulfil their potential.
Best bit of business?
Signing Chris Dagnall on a free transfer. He’s got a proven goal-scoring record at this level and has shown form going into the new season.
Who are you relying on?
Ryan Lowe, who turns 38 in September. His experience and goals will be vital.
Predicted finish?
Mid-table mediocrity awaits.
DONCASTER ROVERS
Hopes and expectations?
Most Rovers fans are expecting promotion this season and we really shouldn’t expect any less.
We’ve been busy in the transfer window and have held on to the core of a good League One side, so I’d like to think promotion is our only option.
Best bit of business?
Tommy Rowe. He looked far too good to be a part of a League One relegation battle last season, or even to be at a League One club at all. He could really pull the strings this season.
Credit to Darren Ferguson and the board for making this signing happen.
Who are you relying on?
Overall we need strong unity and a positive outlook within the squad. We’ve made good signings all over the park – but if you don’t score goals, you don’t win games.
So I’m putting the pressure on Andy Williams and John Marquis to develop a good, powerful partnership.
Predicted finish?
There seems to be a positive feeling around the club which, following relegation, is one hell of an achievement already. I’ll go for a hopeful third-place finish.
EXETER CITY
Hopes and expectations?
It's hard to really say what Exeter fans expect for the season ahead.
The past few seasons have tailed off into mid-table mediocrity, and while the expectation is play-offs as a minimum, the hope has to be that we actually challenge by rediscovering how to win at home.
Best bit of business?
If he can stay fit, then the wonderfully named Troy Archibald-Henville could become the no-nonsense central defender we've been missing for several seasons.
Who are you relying on?
Young striker Ollie Watkins was a breath of fresh air last season. Fearless with the ball and unafraid to run at opponents, there will be an expectation of a double-figure goals tally.
He could be the latest in a long line of academy products that we can sell for a six-figure sum.
Predicted finish?
Best-case scenario, we'll finish sixth or seventh. If past seasons are anything to go by, 10th probably seems more realistic.
There's the makings of a good squad at St James Park, and I've no doubt we'll beat a few of the more fancied sides, but what I worry about is whether we can do this on a consistent basis.
GRIMSBY TOWN
Hopes and expectations?
We're back in the Football League after six years away, so I hope we're fighting at the right end of the table. I expect us to be competitive on the pitch, even if that means we don't win most weeks as we did last season.
Best bit of business?
Bringing players in with pace and league experience, which we lacked last season.
Paul Hurst's signings - there have been about 14 so far this summer - give us plenty of options and speed at both ends of the pitch. Ben Davies may be the best of the bunch.
Who are you relying on?
The whole team will have to play a part because Paul Hurst demands that. But the difference between mid-table and the play-offs could be goals, and that may fall on Omar Bogle's shoulders.
Predicted finish?
Hopefully top 10. Anywhere in the top half would be a success for me, but I think we have enough quality to be at the right end of the table.
HARTLEPOOL UNITED
Hopes and expectations?
However unlikely, I hope we can stabilise our best side throughout the season and sneak into that top three.
The last three years have been a struggle since we came down from League One, but I expect us to surprise a few people. Top half is the minimum I expect with the squad we now have.
Best bit of business?
Has got to be Padraig Amond from Grimsby - he ripped the National League to pieces last season with 37 goals in 50 games.
Only time will tell if he can do something similar in League Two, but I would expect at least double figures from him.
I also expect big things from midfielder Nicky Deverdics from Dover.
Who are you relying on?
Minus our new signings, we don’t really have any star players we constantly rely on. The closest would probably be Trevor Carson in goal or Billy Paynter up top.
I’m hoping that Amond gets off to a flyer and doesn’t look back as he clearly looked unfazed by the pressure of being relied on at Grimsby last season.
Predicted finish?
I think we will finish in and around the top seven. A lot will depend on how the new signings gel, and react to the higher standard of League Two.
Keeping our squad as fit as possible throughout the season will be key.
LEYTON ORIENT
Hopes and expectations?
Promotion has to be the target, preferably via the automatic spots given our last play-off experience.
Andy Hessenthaler has added depth to the squad over the summer, and hopefully he does well enough to last the season in the dugout.
Some stability would be nice.
Best bit of business?
We have made a few good signings, but Robbie Weir could be the most important new arrival.
He has been appointed as captain of the club, and his experience of winning promotion in recent years could be invaluable.
Who are you relying on?
Last season, we were reliant on Jay Simpson - he scored 25 of our 60 league goals. That looks set to continue, as he remains our biggest threat.
Dean Cox and Gavin Massey should provide better service for Jay and his strike partners this season.
Predicted finish?
I'd hope that having a stronger squad this year would make a top-three finish a distinct possibility, but ultimately I think we'll end up in the play-off places.
I'll go with fifth.
LUTON TOWN
Hopes and expectations?
I hope for an improvement on what we managed last season. If we can improve our home form, we should be there or thereabouts.
Best bit of business?
We've made eight signings in all but Danny Hylton looks the pick of them. He was promoted with Oxford last season so hopefully that experience will help us this year.
He is clever and can bring our midfielders into play so he looks to be a real asset.
Who are you relying on?
If we are to achieve anything this season we will need Jack Marriott to have a good campaign.
He wasn't in the team at the start of last season, having been earmarked as one for the future, but as soon as Nathan Jones arrived in January he was a permanent fixture.
If he stays fit this season, he should bag the 20-25 goals which could make a difference.
Predicted finish?
Sixth.
MANSFIELD TOWN
Hopes and expectations?
I hope we could perhaps reach the play-offs, but I expect us to fall just short this time around. An improvement on last season’s 12th place would be nice.
Best bit of business?
I like the signing of Danny Rose from Bury. We didn't score enough goals last season, largely relying on Matt Green.
We reportedly paid six figures for Rose, but he is young, hungry, and his movement is excellent at League Two level.
Who are you relying on?
It will probably be Matt Green again. He ended up with 16 goals last term, and missed a host of chances in the process. He looks sharper this time around.
Predicted finish?
I think ninth, just short of a play-off spot.
MORECAMBE
Hopes and expectations?
As one of the division’s underdogs, the hope is always to cause as many upsets as possible. Most bookies have already written us off as they do every season.
The expectation is to stay in the Football League, particularly until any pending takeover occurs.
Best bit of business?
Securing Dean Winnard from rivals Accrington will bring vital experience and leadership to the defence.
The capture of Jack Dunn from Liverpool on a six-month loan could be a good move by Jim Bentley, too.
Who are you relying on?
We will again be relying on stalwart Kevin Ellison, who is in his 38th year but still gives the 18-year-olds a run for their money.
We will be hoping for double figures from him again this year.
Predicted finish?
Given last year's disappointing campaign, it is difficult to be too optimistic at this stage.
Comfortably avoiding a relegation battle will probably be an achievement and anything more a welcome bonus.
NEWPORT COUNTY
Hopes and expectations?
After finishing 90th out of 92 last term and then turning over 95% of the squad, our expectations are limited to say the least.
Realistically, our supporters would be cock-a-hoop if Warren Feeney kept us up again.
Best bit of business?
Feeney has built a squad based on size.
We got bullied out of games far too often last year and he has addressed that – notably with man-mountain Jon Parkin who should also bang in a few goals.
The re-signing of ex-loanee Scott Bennett from Notts County will also give us some reliability at the back.
All of the new players are freebies, and are reportedly on lower wages than the players that were released – now that’s good business.
Who are you relying on?
If new signing Mark Randall performs as well as Mark Byrne – who’s gone to Gillingham - he could be vital. Joe Day will be called upon to back up a brand new defensive unit.
Predicted finish?
I genuinely think that we will finish mid-table. However, staying up will be a total success if it means we can finally put the Terry Butcher nightmare behind us.
NOTTS COUNTY
Hopes and expectations?
After the disappointment of last season, promotion isn't something I have in mind. But I do harbour hope that we may be one of the clubs in the play-off mix.
Expectation-wise, I would like to see the players give 100 per cent.
Best bit of business?
We have signed a lot of Port Vale players, and, considering how they have played over the past couple of seasons since gaining promotion themselves, it looks like it has been a good summer of recruitment.
Striker Jonathan Forte and full-back Richard Duffy would be my stand-out players. I think both are of upper-middle League One quality, and are ideal signings.
Who are you relying on?
Typically, Notts County rely heavily on the goalkeeper. So Adam Collin and Scott Loach will be crucial this season.
Outfield, Stanley Aborah is our standout player, and with his future at the club now assured after a tumultuous period last season, he should benefit from an extended run in the first team.
Predicted finish?
After the 2015-16 campaign, this season is more a case of consolidation and stability. John Sheridan is a very steady hand, however, so there is every chance of a play-off position.
PLYMOUTH ARGYLE
Hopes and expectations?
With the number of new players Derek Adams has signed, I hope we can have a good season.
Adams exceeded expectations last season so hopefully Argyle can go one better and win promotion this time around.
Best bit of business?
The signing of former Scottish international David Goodwillie. He is experienced and a proven goal-scorer in England and Scotland.
Who are you relying on?
The whole team have to come together and give their all. No team should just rely on one person.
Predicted finish?
I hope we get promoted automatically, but I'd be happy with a top-seven finish.
Hopefully we can go one better than that devastating play-off final at Wembley last May.
PORTSMOUTH
Hopes and expectations?
Promotion, if the season is to be a success. I don’t think we’ll win the league, but I do expect us to go up automatically.
Best bit of business?
Our midfield signing from MK Dons, Carl Baker. He just oozes class – proved by the fact he played over 30 games in the Championship last season.
Who are you relying on?
We relied too much on players like Kyle Bennett and Gary Roberts last season. I’m hoping our other attackers are also able to make an impact when the two of them are injured or out of form.
Predicted finish?
I think we will have our best season in League Two this year, but I don’t think we’ll win the title. I’ll go for automatic promotion.
STEVENAGE
Hopes and expectations?
After Darren Sarll took charge for the second half of last season and steered us clear from danger, the hope and expectation is that he continues that work.
We look a lot more solid under Sarll – and if we can now add some goals into the mix, we should be able to continue looking up rather than down.
Best bit of business?
It depends how you look at it. On the one hand, we've kept hold of some hugely influential lads such as Michael Tonge, Jamie Jones and Luke Wilkinson.
On the other, Jobi McAnuff and Matt Godden have looked excellent acquisitions based on their pre-season performances.
Who are you relying on?
To be honest, the manager is looking to each and every player to make his mark this season.
But our strikers have a big role to play. Not least because our leading scorer last season was midfielder Chris Whelpdale, despite him missing half the season.
Our strikers need to score goals.
Predicted finish?
Lower mid-table. It might not sound ambitious, but after last season's flirtation with relegation, it's progress.
If the pieces fall into place sooner than expected, an outside bet for the play-offs shouldn't be ruled out.
- BoroGuide (@boroguide)
WYCOMBE WANDERERS
Hopes and expectations?
Personally, I hope we take the step forward from last year and make a stronger, sustained challenge for promotion.
Best bit of business?
The capture of Adebayo Akinfenwa has obviously got people outside of leafy Buckinghamshire talking about the Chairboys again, but the return of Paris Cowan-Hall on loan could be crucial.
When fit, he's a proven game-changer and we'll all be hoping he can recapture the form which saw him secure his move to Millwall in January 2015.
Who are you relying on?
It feels wrong to single out just one of a back four which kept us competitive for so long last season, but Aaron Pierre is the undoubted rock at the heart of our rear-guard.
His strength is unreal and always causes problems for opposing strikers.
Predicted finish?
I'm naturally a pessimist. The squad is capable of a play-off finish but I fear the inevitable injuries and suspensions could cost us.
Don't be surprised to see us in the mix at the business end of the campaign, but I'm going for a slight improvement. 10th.
- Matt Bass (@Matt_Bass)
YEOVIL TOWN
Hopes and expectations?
I am hoping for a lot more positivity than over the past three years or so. We have a young, hungry manager, and a good squad on paper.
I think we will be mid-table, but perhaps will try and push on as we gain confidence.
Best bit of business?
Keeping Francois Zoko is huge. He is a goal-scorer, workhorse, and carves chances out of nothing. His commitment to the club shows how far we have come over the past season or so.
Who are you relying on?
Manager Darren Way. He needs to steer the ship and be positive throughout. We need to be more potent in front of goal and his coaching will be key.
Predicted finish?
10th. That would be a lot better than in previous years.
